Iran strikes back against US base in Qatar, Iranian state TV reports

Iran has reportedly launched a retaliatory attack on Al-Udeid, the U.S. airbase in Qatar, on Monday. Explosions were heard in Doha, with Iranian state media announcing the start of “Operation Fatah’s Blessing against the American Al-Udeid base in Qatar.” This attack comes in response to the U.S. bombing of three Iranian nuclear sites with B-2 bombers.

President Mahmoud Pezeshkian of Iran issued a warning prior to the attack, stating that Iran would not let the strikes on its nuclear facilities go unanswered. He emphasized Iran’s commitment to defending its nation and responding to any aggression with faith, wisdom, and determination.

Al-Udeid airbase is significant as it houses 10,000 American forces and serves as the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East. The base plays a crucial role in logistical operations for the U.S. mission against ISIS in Iraq and Syria, as well as hosting Central Command’s Forward Headquarters and air forces in the region. It has also been utilized as a headquarters for British airstrikes against ISIS in Iraq.

President Donald Trump visited Al-Udeid in May, where he signed a $1 billion military sales agreement with Qatar. Qatar has maintained a delicate balance between its relations with the U.S. and Iran, as evidenced by the recent attack on the airbase.

In response to the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, Iran has vowed to retaliate against American interests and military assets. The Iranian armed forces chief of staff, Abdolrahim Mousavi, warned that Iran’s fighters were prepared to take action against the U.S. and its allies.

The attack on Al-Udeid was foreshadowed by satellite images showing the relocation of U.S. aircraft from the base. Despite this preparation, the attack still managed to cause significant disruptions and damage.

As tensions escalate between the U.S. and Iran, President Trump has warned of severe consequences for any further Iranian aggression. He has made it clear that any retaliation by Iran will be met with a force greater than what was witnessed during the recent strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

The situation continues to develop, with updates expected as more information becomes available. Fox News reporter Thomas Ferraro has contributed to the coverage of this ongoing conflict.
