IRCC Announces First Targeted Express Entry Drawing of July 2023

Last updated on July 5, 2023, 11:58 EDT (Toronto time)
The first STEM professions targeted Express Entry draw today sent out 500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for Permanent Residency (PR).
Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score threshold increases by 10 points to 486 compared to the first targeted drawing for healthcare professions on June 28.
Please find below the full details of the STEM professions targeted Express Entry drawing announced today:
- Number of invitations issued: 500
- Rank required to be invited to apply: 500 or higher
- Date and time round: Jul 05 2023 13:38:22 UTC
- CRS score of the lowest ranked invited candidate: 486
- Tie Breaking Rule: 23 Nov 2022 00:01:29 UTC
The Immigration Minister announced last week that an additional 1,500 invitations will be sent out this week.
So with only 500 ITAs sent out for STEM professions, we believe more draws will follow today or this week with an additional 1,000 invitations to apply targeting other professions listed for Express Entry draws.
Or additional 1,500 invitations to apply (ITAs) only for Express Entry profiles in 35 healthcare professions.

CRS score distribution in the pool as of July 5, 2023

On July 4, IRCC also invited 700 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 511 in a surprise draw across all programs.
Express Entry candidates in the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program are eligible to draw for all programs.
The most recent category-based drawing took place last week on June 28 and invited 500 healthcare professionals with a minimum CRS score of 476, the lowest CRS score in an Express Entry drawing to date in 2023.
What Are These New Occupancy Oriented Express Entry Draws?
IRCC will now invite in-demand skilled workers by focusing on candidates with experience in 82 occupations in key industries such as healthcare, STEM occupations, commerce, transportation and agriculture.
New profession-based Express Entry draws will give priority to candidates with at least 6 months work experience in one of the following industries within the past 3 years:
1. healthcare
2. science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professions.
3. trades such as carpenters, plumbers and contractors
4. transportation
5. agriculture and agri-food
What about the ‘no program specified’ Express Entry draws?
IRCC has previously clarified that ‘no program specified’ Express Entry draws will continue alongside the new targeted draws, but will reduce the number of invitations to accommodate invitations sent out in targeted draws.
What effect would targeted Express Entry draws have on the CRS score?
It is expected that the CRS cut-off for Express Entry candidates with experience in one of the targeted professions/NOC codes will decrease.
However, the CRS score threshold will increase for profiles in ‘no program specified draws’.
