Israel destroys Hezbollah’s ‘largest precision-guided missiles manufacturing site’ as group vows to ‘fight’
Israel’s military has announced that they have successfully destroyed Hezbollah’s largest precision-guided missiles manufacturing site. This operation comes as part of a ceasefire deal between the two sides, which is currently in its third day. According to the Israel Defense Forces, the site was located near the Syria-Lebanon border and was 1.4km wide and 70m underground.
The IDF stated that this site was used for the production of precision-guided missiles and surface-to-surface missiles, which are part of Hezbollah’s deadly arsenal. The destruction of this site marks a significant blow to the terrorist group’s capabilities.
Hezbollah lawmaker, Hassan Fadlallah, has vowed that the group will continue to fight and resist any attacks on Lebanon. While he expressed willingness to cooperate with the army to implement the ceasefire, he emphasized that Hezbollah sees itself as the defender of Lebanon against Israel. Fadlallah made it clear that they will not stand idly by if their country is attacked.
Lebanon has been facing a financial crisis since 2019, which has impacted its ability to support its military forces. Despite this, the ceasefire agreement includes plans for Lebanon to recruit and deploy an additional 10,000 troops south of the Litani River. However, aid promised at a donor conference in Paris has yet to materialize, leaving Lebanon struggling to support its military and citizens.
The IDF has issued warnings to Lebanese residents to stay away from border regions where Israeli troops are still present following a ground operation in early October. The IDF Arabic spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, emphasized that residents should not return to their homes in these areas until further notice to ensure their safety.
The ongoing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah continue to pose a threat to stability in the region. It remains to be seen how both sides will navigate the ceasefire agreement and whether further escalations can be avoided. The international community’s support for Lebanon will also be crucial in helping the country rebuild and strengthen its military capabilities.
