Israeli assessment: US strikes set Iran’s nuclear program back ‘many years’

The recent U.S. strikes on Iran have had a significant impact on the country’s nuclear program, according to a new Israeli assessment. The Israel Atomic Energy Commission stated that the strikes, which targeted the Fordow nuclear facility, have set back Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons by “many years.”

The assessment revealed that the U.S. strikes destroyed critical infrastructure at the Fordow facility, rendering it inoperable. This development has been seen as a major blow to Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The Israel Atomic Energy Commission emphasized that the achievement can be maintained as long as Iran does not have access to nuclear material.

In a statement, the commission highlighted the effectiveness of the American strikes in combination with Israeli attacks on other elements of Iran’s military nuclear program. The assessment aligns with statements made by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, who acknowledged that the country’s nuclear installations have been badly damaged.

The U.S. strikes, carried out with B-2 stealth bombers using 30,000-pound bunker busters, targeted Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities. The impact of the strikes was evident in satellite images showing the destruction at the Fordow facility.

Following the initial strikes, Israel conducted additional attacks on Fordow, targeting roads leading to the underground facility. The Israel Defense Forces also launched strikes on the notorious Evin prison and several Iranian military command centers as part of ongoing efforts to degrade Iran’s military capabilities.

Iran’s nuclear chief, Mohammad Eslami, confirmed that the country is assessing the damage and making preparations to restore the facilities. Despite these efforts, both President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have vowed to respond if Iran attempts to rebuild its nuclear program.
