Israeli PM blasts ‘deep state’ in his country, US
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently drew comparisons between the challenges being made by left-wing lawmakers to his power and the efforts by officials to thwart President Donald Trump’s agenda. The statement from Netanyahu’s office referred to the “leftist Deep State” weaponizing the justice system against both leaders when a strong right-wing leader wins an election.
The post comes amidst accusations against Netanyahu for continuing the war against Hamas for political reasons. Thousands of protestors demonstrated against him following his decision to dismiss the head of the Shin Bet internal intelligence agency, Ronen Bar. Netanyahu had also faced opposition before the war when he attempted to fire the Defense Minister over a planned judicial overhaul.
Similarly, President Trump is facing numerous lawsuits for his initiatives, including mass deportation of illegal immigrant criminals, a ban on transgender individuals serving in the military, and a ban on birthright citizenship. Federal Judge James E. Boasberg recently sought to block the removal of illegal alien Venezuelan citizens designated as a foreign terrorist organization under wartime authority.
Trump and the White House have criticized judges ruling against the administration, with Trump calling Judge Boasberg a “Radical Left Lunatic” in a social media post. A Republican lawmaker even introduced articles of impeachment against Boasberg for alleged abuse of power. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt condemned federal judges during a news briefing for trying to block and delay the administration’s initiatives, referring to it as “lawfare.”
The statement from Netanyahu’s office and the ongoing legal battles faced by both leaders highlight the challenges posed by opposition groups and the justice system to their respective agendas. The comparison between the situations faced by Netanyahu and Trump underscores the shared struggle against what they perceive as attempts to thwart the will of the people.
