Jamie Myra wins Lunenburg mayoral election
Jamie Myra has been elected mayor of the Town of Lunenburg, collecting more than twice as many votes as the other candidate in a special election held Saturday.
In a news release Saturday night, the town said Myra received 811 votes while Gale Fullerton got 377.
There were 2,021 eligible voters for the special election, which was called after Matt Risser stepped down as mayor this spring. Voter turnout was about 59 percent, compared to 64 per cent in the 2020 general election.
Myra, who served on town council from 2000 to 2012 and owns a local clothing store. will be sworn in as mayor at the next town council meeting Sept. 12.
Acting mayor Peter Mosher will continue to serve in that capacity until then, when he will resume his duties as deputy mayor.
“The Town of Lunenburg congratulates both candidates for their efforts and commitment to civic engagement,” the release said.
