Jaxson Dart says Giants teammate’s price for jersey number was ‘too much’

The New York Giants shocked many when they chose Jaxson Dart in the first round of the NFL Draft. Dart, a former Ole Miss quarterback, was a highly anticipated pick for the Giants, and the team showed their confidence in him by trading up to secure him. Dart wore the No. 2 jersey while at Ole Miss, a number that was already taken by Giants cornerback Deonte Banks.
Banks had previously worn the No. 3 jersey but gave it up after striking a deal with veteran quarterback Russell Wilson. He then switched to the No. 2 jersey, which caused some tension when Dart expressed interest in reclaiming the number. However, Dart ultimately decided that Banks’ asking price was too high and opted to stick with the No. 6 jersey.
The NFL’s new collective bargaining agreement means that rookie contracts are now fixed, eliminating the need for negotiations. Dart, as the 25th overall pick, is expected to earn $16.9 million over his first contract, including a $9 million signing bonus. Despite this, Dart hinted that he may still be considering a deal for the No. 2 jersey.
Last year, Drew Lock wore the No. 2 jersey for the Giants before signing with the Seattle Seahawks. Dart is still weighing his options and trying to decide if he prefers the No. 6 jersey. Fans will have to wait and see what decision he ultimately makes.
