JFK’s grandson says there is ‘nothing heroic’ about Trump’s declassification order

President Donald Trump’s recent executive order to declassify the JFK files has sparked mixed reactions, with one of the 35th president’s descendants, Jack Schlossberg, expressing his disappointment. In a post on X, Schlossberg, former President John F. Kennedy’s grandson, criticized Trump’s move, stating that it was not a heroic act.

Schlossberg emphasized that declassification should not be used as a political tool, especially when the subject, JFK, is unable to defend himself. He stated, “There’s nothing heroic about it.”

After signing the order, which also included the declassification of files related to the assassinations of JFK, his brother Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr., Trump assured reporters that “everything will be revealed.”

RFK Jr., son of the late senator and Trump’s HHS nominee, praised the order as a “great move” on the president’s part. He believes that the declassification will bring more transparency and fulfill Trump’s promise to provide the truth to the American people. RFK Jr. has been advocating for answers regarding his father and uncle’s assassinations.

The order mandates that officials present a plan for the full release of records on the JFK assassination within 15 days and for files related to RFK and MLK Jr.’s assassinations within 45 days. King’s family expressed their hope to review the files as a family before public release.

While Trump had initially promised to release the JFK files during his first term, some materials remain undisclosed over 60 years later. Trump had previously decided to withhold the documents following warnings from the CIA and FBI about the potential risks to national security.

In a recent statement on “Hannity,” Trump mentioned that then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had advised against releasing the files, although he did not disclose the specific reasons for keeping them classified.

As the debate over the declassification of the JFK files continues, it remains to be seen how this move will impact historical narratives and public perceptions of these critical events.
