Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine is convening with military leaders from Germany, the U.K., France, Finland, and Italy in Washington, D.C., to discuss potential security guarantees for Ukraine to deter Russian aggression, as confirmed by U.S. officials to Fox News.
This high-level meeting precedes a NATO Chiefs of Defense gathering where all 32 allied military leaders will virtually coordinate next steps. The session, chaired by the head of NATO’s Military Committee, will take place in Brussels on Wednesday, according to officials.
The urgency of these discussions follows remarks made by President Donald Trump on “Fox & Friends,” where he suggested the possibility of providing air support to Ukraine as part of a security assurance. This comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders visited the White House to advocate for peace talks to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Leading the session in Washington on Tuesday evening is Gen. Dan Caine, alongside senior defense leaders from the aforementioned NATO allies.

Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, commander of U.S. European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), will participate virtually from Washington, as per a U.S. military official.
While the current focus is on the Tuesday night talks and the upcoming NATO Chiefs of Defense meeting, the situation is evolving rapidly, potentially leading to additional sessions if circumstances change.
Wednesday’s NATO meeting will involve virtual U.S. participation, with Gen. Caine joining his counterparts while the Military Committee chair leads from Brussels. The broader discussions within the alliance are expected to build upon the earlier gathering in Washington.

The NATO session on Wednesday, led from Brussels by the head of NATO’s Military Committee, will focus on collective security commitments for Ukraine.
These consecutive meetings represent a pivotal moment for the alliance as they deliberate on offering credible security assurances to Kyiv while avoiding direct confrontation with Russia. The discussions are expected to influence NATO’s response to developments on the ground and Trump’s public statements regarding U.S. support.
