Josh Allen, Bills hand Chiefs 1st defeat in nearly a year

The Kansas City Chiefs suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. The Bills delivered a 30-21 victory, moving their record to 9-2 while the Chiefs now sit at 9-1.

The Bills knew that they had to be at their best in the final minutes of the game, as every Chiefs game this season had come down to the wire. Quarterback Josh Allen rose to the occasion, leading back-to-back touchdown drives in the Bills’ final possessions to secure the win.

In the first drive, Allen connected with Curtis Samuel for a 12-yard touchdown, extending the Bills’ lead to 23-14. Despite the deficit, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes responded with a touchdown drive of his own, bringing the Chiefs within two points.

With just under eight minutes left in the game, Allen knew he had to manage the clock and move the ball downfield to keep the Chiefs from taking the lead. He orchestrated a methodical drive, picking up key first downs to keep the clock ticking. A crucial moment came on a third-and-2 play where Allen managed to pick up the first down and then ran for a 26-yard touchdown, giving the Bills a nine-point lead.

Mahomes had just over a minute left to score twice, but his desperation pass on fourth-and-13 was intercepted by Terrel Bernard, sealing the win for the Bills.

Looking at the stat sheet, Allen had an efficient game, throwing for 262 yards and one touchdown while also leading the team in rushing with 55 yards. James Cook scored the first two touchdowns for the Bills, despite only totaling 20 yards on the ground. Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel stepped up in the receiving game, with Shakir recording eight catches for 70 yards and Samuel adding five receptions for 58 yards.
