Santa letters: N.S. fire departments collect letters for Santa amid postal strike

Fire departments in Nova Scotia are stepping up to help children’s letters reach Santa during the Canada Post strike. Trish Pittman, a firefighter at the Enfield Volunteer Fire Department, came up with the idea to collect Santa letters in a special mailbox after realizing the impact of the strike on Christmas mail.
The initiative has gained momentum, with numerous fire departments in Nova Scotia now participating. The plan is to return the letters to the North Pole using Santa’s special mail bag, with some departments even having Santa himself collect the letters.
Once Santa sends back his responses, firefighters plan to hand-deliver each letter back to the sender with a special message from Santa. The Enfield detachment has already received around 180 letters, while the Wolfville Fire Department has received 55 letters and expects more.
The Seabright and District Fire Department has also joined in on the holiday fun, receiving around 80 letters so far. They are considering making this initiative a yearly tradition, along with other participating departments.
The experience has been heartwarming for firefighters, with parents and children expressing gratitude for the initiative. Santa himself made a personal visit to the Enfield fire department to collect more letters and had a special request for Maritime families to clean their chimneys.
Each participating fire department has different deadlines for letters, which can be found on their Facebook pages. They are reminding children and families to include a return address on each letter for Santa’s response to reach the right home.
This heartwarming initiative is bringing joy to families during the holiday season, with firefighters dedicated to ensuring children receive their cherished responses from Santa.
