The Director of National Intelligence (DNI), Tulsi Gabbard, made a bold move on Tuesday by revoking security clearances from 37 current and former intelligence officials. Gabbard accused these officials of politicizing and manipulating intelligence for their own agendas.
In a memo circulated on Monday, names of officials from agencies like the CIA, NSA, State Department, and National Security Council were listed. Notable names included former Obama DNI James Clapper, who allegedly pushed officials to rush a 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment related to Russia’s influence in the 2016 election, going as far as compromising normal procedures.
Gabbard emphasized the importance of upholding the oath to the Constitution and serving the American people above personal interests. She stated, “Being entrusted with a security clearance is a privilege, not a right. Those who betray this trust have broken the sacred bond they promised to uphold.”

Among those stripped of their clearances were Brett M. Holmgren, Richard H. Ledgett, Stephanie O’Sullivan, Luke R. Hartig, and Yael Eisenstat, individuals with significant roles in intelligence and security.

Gabbard attributed the decision to President Donald Trump’s directive, asserting the need for the Intelligence Community to prioritize the safety, security, and freedom of the American people.
The memo specified that the revoked clearances were effective immediately, leading to termination of access to classified systems, facilities, and information. The officials were required to surrender their credentials to security officers.
This move marks a significant step in ensuring the integrity and non-partisan nature of the Intelligence Community, as well as holding officials accountable for their actions.
