During her appearance, Harris discussed her love for nacho cheese Doritos and recounted a story about ordering them via DoorDash on the night of the Academy Awards. She explained that she was craving the chips and didn’t want to leave her house to go to the grocery store, so she had them delivered instead. Nuno Sebastiao, the CEO of data science company Feedzai, joined her on stage and attempted to tie her anecdote to consumer behavior and innovation.

Harris raised the issue of consumer expectations and the need for businesses to innovate in ways that solve everyday problems, such as curing diseases and addressing affordable housing issues in America. Her remarks prompted mixed reactions, with critics mocking her for delivering a convoluted and nonsensical speech.

Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, shared a photo of her pouring a bag of Doritos into a bowl on the night of the Academy Awards, further highlighting her fondness for the chips. This is not the first time Harris has publicly expressed her love for Doritos, as she has previously shared stories of eating them on election night and during campaign stops.

Critics and conservatives seized on Harris’ latest “word salad” moment, with some joking that her election loss to President Donald Trump “remains a mystery.” Despite the backlash, Harris is reportedly considering a bid for California governor in 2026 once Gov. Gavin Newsom’s term ends. She is expected to make a decision on her potential run by the end of the summer.
