Keegan Bradley responds to both Trump, Rory McIlroy about being playing captain

President Donald Trump recently voiced his support for Keegan Bradley to select himself as playing captain for Team USA at the upcoming Ryder Cup. However, Bradley, despite being ranked 11th among USA players, ultimately did not pick himself to be on the 12-man team.

Instead, Bradley chose Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay, and Sam Burns to represent the United States. The reigning Travelers Championship winner stated that the decision not to play was made a while ago, and not even the president’s support could sway his choice.

Despite this, Bradley expressed his gratitude for Trump’s backing, calling it “surreal and stunning.” He also mentioned that he is looking forward to seeing the president at the Ryder Cup, which Trump confirmed he would attend on the first day of the tournament.

Regarding the possibility of being a playing captain, Bradley acknowledged Rory McIlroy’s comments that it hasn’t been done since Arnold Palmer in 1963. While he didn’t seem intent on proving McIlroy wrong, Bradley did highlight the unique challenges of the Ryder Cup and emphasized that he made the decision he felt was best for the team.

With the Ryder Cup set to kick off on Sept. 26, the excitement is building as Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Russell Henley, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, and Harris English have all automatically qualified for Team USA. As the event draws near, golf fans around the world are eagerly anticipating the fierce competition that awaits.
