Auburn great Charles Barkley voices confidence in Johni Broome

The Auburn men’s basketball team, the top seed in the NCAA Division I tournament, has had an impressive run so far. After defeating Alabama State in the opening round, they went on to beat Creighton in the second round and secure a spot in the Sweet 16. However, even before the tournament began, Auburn legend Charles Barkley showed his support for one of the team’s current stars, Johni Broome.

Barkley, who is providing commentary during the tournament games, believes that Broome has the potential to surpass him in Auburn’s basketball history if he can lead the Tigers to their first national championship. “If he can finish the journey, I would say he’s the greatest player in Auburn basketball history,” Barkley said during a recent telecast. He praised Broome for his contributions to the program and expressed his hope that they could bring home a national championship.

Barkley also pointed out that Auburn’s appearance in the 2019 Final Four was the program’s best season to date. He emphasized the importance of winning a championship and how it would solidify Broome’s legacy as the greatest player in Auburn’s basketball history, even surpassing Barkley himself.

Despite some doubts leading up to this year’s tournament due to the team’s struggles late in the regular season, Barkley remained confident in Auburn’s abilities. He highlighted the quality of the opponents who had defeated Auburn, noting that they had lost to top-ranked teams in the country.

Auburn will face the fifth-seeded Michigan Wolverines in the Sweet 16 on March 28 in Atlanta. The matchup promises to be a thrilling game as both teams vie for a spot in the Elite Eight.
