Kilmar Abrego Garcia deportation sparks clash between DHS, Maryland Democrat

The Department of Homeland Security reiterated on Wednesday that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the deported illegal immigrant and suspected MS-13 gang member, will never return to American streets. This statement comes in response to criticism from U.S. Rep. Glenn Ivey, D-Md., who attempted to visit Garcia in El Salvador on Memorial Day. Ivey claimed that the Salvadoran government obstructed his visit, stating that he represents Abrego Garcia.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was urged by Ivey to provide evidence in court proving that Garcia is an illegal immigrant. Democrats argue that Garcia was not given due process before being deported, despite living in the United States for several years.

“Let us be crystal clear: Kilmar Abrego Garcia will never be on American streets again,” a post on Homeland Security’s website emphasized. The agency condemned Ivey’s attempts to visit Garcia, labeling him as an “illegal alien, MS-13 gang member, human trafficker, and wife beater.”

Following his deportation, multiple Democrats have tried to visit Garcia in the El Salvadoran prison where he is being held for wellness checks. The Trump administration has presented evidence linking Abrego Garcia to MS-13 and human trafficking, as well as court documents detailing his alleged abuse of his wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura.

On the other hand, Democrats portray Garcia as a “Maryland man” who was unfairly deported without proper legal proceedings. President Donald Trump has even displayed photos of gang tattoos allegedly belonging to Abrego Garcia, further solidifying the administration’s stance on his criminal activities.

Ivey expressed frustration in a video message, demanding access to Garcia during his visit to El Salvador. He emphasized his role as Garcia’s representative and criticized the Salvadoran government for hindering his efforts to see him.
