L.A. wildfires: SAG Awards live nominations cancelled

LOS ANGELES –
The Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations were forced to cancel their in-person announcement scheduled for Wednesday morning due to the ongoing wildfires and high winds in the Los Angeles area.
Instead of a live event hosted by actors Joey King and Cooper Koch, the nominations for the prestigious awards recognizing outstanding performances in movies and television will now be revealed through a press release.
The raging fires in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles and Altadena near Pasadena have resulted in multiple homes and structures being engulfed in flames.
The 31st annual SAG Awards ceremony, set to be hosted by Kristen Bell, will be streamed live on Netflix on February 23 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time from the iconic Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles. Last year’s ceremony was hosted by Idris Elba.
Known as a reliable indicator for the Oscars, the SAG Awards often predict the winners in the acting and best picture categories.
The devastating fires have also led to the cancellation of several entertainment events, including the premiere of the Robbie Williams biopic “Better Man,” the debut of Jennifer Lopez’s film “Unstoppable,” and the unveiling of Universal Pictures’ upcoming horror movie “Wolf Man.”
