Last year, $10 million in taxpayer funds was spent creating transgender animals

Last year, a study conducted by the White Coat Waste Project revealed that $10 million in taxpayer money was used to create transgender animals. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., brought attention to this misuse of funds during a subcommittee hearing titled “Transgender Lab Rats and Poisoned Puppies: Oversight of Taxpayer Funded Animal Cruelty.” The hearing featured a witness from the White Coat Waste Project.

Mace highlighted that the taxpayer money funded experiments that involved creating transgender mice, rats, and monkeys through invasive surgeries and hormone therapies at various universities across the country. She criticized the Biden-Harris administration for allowing funds to be used for what she referred to as “painful and deadly transgender experiments” on animals.

During the hearing, Mace specifically mentioned that the administration spent $2.5 million on studying the fertility of transgender mice, showcasing how taxpayer dollars were being used to support what she deemed as radical gender ideology.

The issue of wasteful government spending on animal cruelty was emphasized by Mace, who stated that over $20 billion is spent annually on animal experimentation in the U.S. She cited examples such as spending $1 million to investigate whether female rats receiving testosterone therapy were more susceptible to overdosing on a date rape drug.

Mace’s remarks were part of a larger discussion on the ethics and implications of using taxpayer funds for animal experimentation. She stressed that this is a nonpartisan issue and called for greater oversight to prevent such misuse of funds in the future.

The White Coat Waste Project, which conducted research on this topic, was acknowledged by Mace for their efforts. The organization’s executive, Justin Goodman, along with other experts, were invited to testify at the hearing. Beagles rescued from a National Institutes of Health supplier were present at the hearing as a reminder of the consequences of animal experimentation.

Mace’s efforts to stop a $1.8 million drug test experiment on beagle puppies in 2022 were also highlighted during the hearing. She expressed hope that conversations like the one held that day would lead to better protection of taxpayer dollars and prevent unnecessary animal experimentation in the future.

The discussion at the hearing shed light on the widespread use of animal testing by various government agencies and organizations. Mace urged for more transparency and accountability in how taxpayer funds are allocated for such purposes.

Deirdre Heavey, a politics writer for Fox News Digital, covered the details of the hearing and highlighted the key points raised by Rep. Nancy Mace. The conversation surrounding taxpayer-funded animal experimentation continues to be an important topic for policymakers and advocates alike.
