Laurier advances to Vanier Cup after blowing out Bishop’s in Uteck Bowl

The Laurier Golden Hawks, ranked No. 2 in the nation, have punched their ticket to the Vanier Cup for the first time in nearly two decades after a dominant 48-24 victory over the Bishop’s Gaiters in the Uteck Bowl on Saturday in Lennoxville, Quebec. This marks Laurier’s first appearance in the Vanier Cup since their championship-winning season in 2005 when they defeated Saskatchewan 24-23.

The Golden Hawks will now await the winner of the Mitchell Bowl, which features No. 3 Laval taking on unranked Regina. Fans can catch the action live on CBCSports.ca, the CBC Sports app, and CBC Gem.

Laurier put on a show in the Uteck Bowl, racing out to a commanding 34-3 lead by halftime at Coulter Field. Quarterback Taylor Elgersma, in his fourth year with the team, was on fire, tossing five touchdown passes while completing an impressive 30 of 34 attempts for 452 yards. Receiver Ryan Hughes was a standout performer as well, hauling in three touchdown passes for the Golden Hawks.

The stage is now set for the Vanier Cup, which is scheduled to take place on November 23rd in Kingston, Ontario. Football fans can tune in to CBCSports.ca, the CBC Sports app, or CBC Gem to catch all the action live at 1 p.m. ET. With Laurier’s high-flying offense and determined spirit, they will be looking to capture another national title and etch their name in Canadian collegiate football history once again.
