Lawyer of Texas student accused of killing Austin Metcalf seeking lower bond

The lawyer representing Karmelo Anthony, a Texas high school student accused of fatally stabbing 17-year-old student-athlete Austin Metcalf at a track meet, is planning to request a reduction in his client’s $1 million bond. Deric Walpole, the attorney hired by Anthony’s family, stated that he believes Anthony acted in self-defense but needs to gather more information before making definitive statements about the incident.
Walpole has scheduled a hearing for the upcoming week to seek a lower bond for Anthony, who is currently held in custody at the Collins County Jail. Despite multiple attempts to reach out to Walpole for further comment, Fox News Digital has not received a response.
The tragic event unfolded when Anthony, a student-athlete from Frisco Centennial High School, allegedly stabbed Metcalf, a junior at Memorial High School in Frisco, following a dispute over seating at the track meet. According to an arrest report obtained by FOX 4, a school resource officer was the first to confront Anthony at the scene.
During the confrontation, Anthony reportedly stated that he was acting in self-defense and that Metcalf had initiated physical contact with him. Subsequently, when informed that he was under arrest for the stabbing, Anthony allegedly confessed by saying, “I’m not alleged. I did it.”
As Anthony was being escorted to a police vehicle, he expressed concern about Metcalf’s well-being and inquired whether his actions could be considered self-defense. Metcalf’s twin brother, Hunter, described the heartbreaking moment when he witnessed his brother sustain a fatal wound and subsequently pass away.
The altercation reportedly began when Metcalf asked Anthony to move from under a tent designated for Memorial High School. In response, Anthony issued a warning and ultimately resorted to using a knife to inflict the fatal injury on Metcalf.
The grieving father of the victim, Jeff Metcalf, along with his son Hunter and wife Meghan, shared their emotional ordeal on “The Will Cain Show,” recounting the devastating loss of Austin Metcalf. Witnesses at the scene corroborated the sequence of events leading up to the fatal stabbing.
As the investigation continues, the legal team representing Karmelo Anthony is working diligently to uncover all relevant facts surrounding the tragic incident. The community remains in shock over the senseless act of violence that claimed the life of a promising young student-athlete.
