Lions’ Jameson Williams wont face NFL discipline for gun-related arrest

Detroit Lions star receiver Jameson Williams has been cleared of any league discipline following an incident in October 2024 where he was caught with an unlicensed gun during a traffic stop, as reported by the Detroit Free Press.

The incident occurred on October 8, 2024, when Williams was pulled over with his brother, who had two handguns in the vehicle. While the guns were registered properly, Williams did not possess a concealed carry license, potentially leading to a charge of carrying a concealed weapon in a motor vehicle.

Despite the lack of a concealed carry license, Williams will not face any repercussions from the NFL. His brother, on the other hand, does possess a concealed pistol license.

During the incident, Williams was briefly handcuffed but was not taken into custody or charged. The responding police sergeant recognized Williams as a Lions fan and, after making calls to higher-ranking officials, received permission to release the brothers without further action. Bodycam footage revealed that the sergeant’s phone background featured the Lions logo.

Although the NFL has decided not to discipline Williams in this case, Lions head coach Dan Campbell addressed the situation. Williams had previously been suspended for two weeks for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Campbell expressed his support for Williams, acknowledging the challenges he has faced and commending his growth and maturity.

In the 2024 season, Williams had a breakout year, amassing 1,001 receiving yards with seven touchdowns on 58 catches. He also contributed 61 rushing yards and a touchdown, helping the Lions secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
