LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau calls Trump a ‘great ambassador’ for the sport

President Donald Trump has taken an active role in the reunification of golf by facilitating talks between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, and one of the sport’s biggest stars, Bryson DeChambeau, believes he’s the perfect person for the job. DeChambeau recently spoke with “Fox & Friends” to discuss the ongoing negotiations between the two rival circuits and his relationship with the former president.

DeChambeau, a two-time U.S. Open champion, praised Trump as a great ambassador for the game of golf and for diplomacy in general. He highlighted the enjoyable experiences he’s had playing golf with Trump and getting to know him on a personal level. The golfer mentioned a charity round of golf he played with Trump on his YouTube channel, as well as being invited on stage by the president during his victory speech at Trump Headquarters in West Palm Beach.

Trump recently departed for Florida, where he was set to deliver a speech at a dinner with LIV players and others ahead of the tournament at Trump National Doral. Despite recent announcements of tariffs, DeChambeau described the conversation at the dinner as light and enjoyable, emphasizing the gratitude for being able to play on Trump’s golf course.

The former president has been actively involved in brokering a deal between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, hosting meetings at the White House with PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and Yasir Al-Rumayyan of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia. While a framework agreement was signed earlier in the year, negotiations have yet to yield a final deal. Trump is now working to facilitate talks between the two circuits through the new commercial PGA Tour Enterprises.

DeChambeau expressed optimism for a potential agreement in the future, praising LIV Golf for its positive impact on the sport and inspiring the younger generation of golfers. While no specific timeline was given for reaching a deal, he remains hopeful that progress will be made.

Despite reports that the PGA Tour rejected a $1.5 billion investment bid from PIF, DeChambeau remains committed to pushing boundaries and showcasing the potential for growth in the sport. He believes that the ongoing negotiations will ultimately benefit the game of golf and create new opportunities for players and fans alike.

Overall, DeChambeau’s positive outlook and Trump’s involvement highlight the potential for a unified golf landscape in the near future. As negotiations continue, the hope remains that a deal will be reached that benefits all parties involved and propels the sport to new heights.
