Long Lake wildfire expected to grow Sunday due to ‘extreme fire conditions,’ says DNR

The Long Lake wildfire in Nova Scotia is expected to increase in size on Sunday due to extreme fire conditions, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
Wind gusts of 40 km/h are expected in the area
The Department of Natural Resources has reported that the Long Lake wildfire is projected to grow on Sunday as a result of the severe fire conditions present.
The fire currently covers an estimated 3,255 hectares, equivalent to over 32 square kilometres.
Officials have stated that the wind is driving the fire towards the West Dalhousie area, prompting crews to take action to protect homes in the vicinity.
Environment Canada has forecasted wind gusts of up to 40 km/h in the area.
Although rain is expected on Monday, authorities have advised that substantial rainfall over several days is necessary to significantly impact the wildfire.
Jim Rudderham, the director of fleet and forest protection at the Department of Natural Resources, emphasized the need for prolonged rain to effectively combat the fire and lift fire bans and travel restrictions in forested areas.
