Look back at DOGE’s most high-profile cuts during Trump’s first 100 days

As President Trump celebrates his 100th day in office, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is reporting significant progress in cutting waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government. According to DOGE, they have successfully eliminated at least $160 billion in questionable spending, including high-profile cuts that have garnered attention in recent months.

One of the major targets of DOGE’s efforts has been the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Senator Joni Ernst, the Senate DOGE Caucus Chairwoman, has been vocal about the need for spending cuts at USAID. She highlighted several questionable projects and programs funded by the agency, including a $20 million initiative to create a ‘Sesame Street’ in Iraq. Other examples of questionable spending at USAID include funding for a Gaza-based terror charity and a program to promote diversity in Serbia’s workplaces.

In addition to USAID, DOGE has also focused on slashing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) contracts across various federal agencies. The Department of Defense, for example, has announced plans to cut several DEI programs, potentially saving up to $80 million in wasteful spending. The Department of Education and the Institute of Museum and Library Services have also canceled millions of dollars in DEI grants as part of DOGE’s efforts.

DOGE has also taken steps to reduce the federal workforce, citing bloated bureaucracy and unnecessary positions. Thousands of federal employees have been laid off or accepted deferred resignation offers as part of these cutbacks. Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has located $20 billion in wasted tax dollars, attributing the inefficiencies to the previous administration’s rush to spend before Inauguration Day.

Overall, DOGE’s efforts have been met with some opposition, including legal challenges and negative media coverage. However, agency leaders like Elon Musk have remained committed to the goal of improving government efficiency and reducing unnecessary spending. As President Trump continues to prioritize fiscal responsibility, DOGE’s work is expected to play a crucial role in achieving these objectives.
