Four people were killed in an accident on Highway 103 in Lunenburg County on Saturday.
A press release from the RCMP said Mounties, firefighters and paramedics responded to a report of a head-on collision in Maitland at about 5pm
Upon arrival, officers learned that a westbound Ford Escape had crossed the centerline and collided with an eastbound Toyota Tacoma. Seconds later, an eastbound Honda Civic collided with the Tacoma.
The driver of the Escape, a 71-year-old man from Bridgewater, and his two 66-year-old female passengers were all killed as a result of the collision. One passenger was from Bridgewater, while the other was from nearby Hebbville.
The driver and sole occupant of the Tacoma, a 31-year-old man from Chester Basin, also succumbed to his injuries.
The Civic’s two occupants were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
An RCMP collision analyst was on scene and the investigation is ongoing, the release said.
Highway 103 was closed for hours between exits 11 and 12.
