Macron rejects Trump’s plan for Greenland, proposal for Putin to mediate Israel-Iran crisis

French President Emmanuel Macron made a bold statement during his visit to Greenland, expressing his disbelief in Russia’s credibility to mediate the crisis between Israel and Iran, as suggested by U.S. President Donald Trump. Macron emphasized that Russia’s current involvement in conflicts and disregard for international agreements disqualifies them from playing a mediating role.

In an interview with ABC News, Trump mentioned his openness to Russian President Vladimir Putin mediating between Israel and Iran, despite the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Russia following the invasion of Ukraine. Macron firmly rejected this idea, stating that France did not participate in any of Israel’s attacks against Iran.

During his visit to Greenland, Macron addressed the island’s vulnerability to “predatory ambition” and emphasized the need for European unity in response to threats against Greenland’s sovereignty. He reassured that he had discussions with Trump regarding Greenland and planned to address the issue at the upcoming G7 summit in Canada.

A recent poll revealed that a majority of French and American citizens disapprove of a U.S. annexation of Greenland, with a significant portion of French respondents supporting the use of military force to prevent such an invasion.
