Major pro-life group releases ‘Make America Pro-Life Again Roadmap’
Students for Life of Action, the legislative arm of one of the largest pro-life groups in the country, recently unveiled their “Make America Pro-Life Again Roadmap” to combat abortion during the new Trump administration. During a press call on Tuesday, Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins emphasized the significant opportunities for pro-life victories in the coming years, despite seven states passing abortion ballots.
Hawkins pointed out that the election demonstrated a rejection of the most radical pro-abortion ticket in history, signaling a shift towards a more pro-life agenda. With a Republican trifecta in Washington, D.C., and Republican majority control of legislatures, Students for Life is gearing up to make strides in the fight against abortion.
The “Make America Pro-Life Again Roadmap” prioritizes increasing protections for unborn babies in states like Michigan, Ohio, and Arizona, where abortion rights have recently been enshrined in state constitutions. The group is collaborating with state lawmakers to introduce pro-life bills in 13 state legislatures, focusing on issues such as chemical abortion, which now accounts for the majority of U.S. abortions.
One of the key initiatives is a “Clean Water for All” bill in West Virginia, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of abortion pills on the state’s water supply while raising awareness of the dangers of chemical abortion. State Sen. Patricia Rucker, with the support of Students for Life, is optimistic about the bill’s future following the strengthening of the Republican majority in the state legislature.
Despite setbacks under the Biden administration, Students for Life remains confident in their momentum for change. Kristi Hamrick, the group’s vice president of media and policy, highlighted the legal precedent set by the 2007 Supreme Court case Gonzalez vs. Carhart, which allows states to protect unborn babies from partial-birth abortions. This legal foundation paves the way for pro-life initiatives at both the state and federal levels.
In Arizona, where a comprehensive abortion amendment was passed by voters, state Rep. Rachel Jones is drafting a bill to push back against the measure. Jones aims to educate women and young girls on the dangers of chemical abortion and provide them with all available options. She believes that many women are misled into making decisions based on fear and hopes that increased education can protect women’s mental health.
Jones is encouraged by the bipartisan support she has received for her bill, even from some Democratic colleagues. She emphasizes the importance of protecting women and ensuring they are fully informed before making decisions about their reproductive health.
The “Make America Pro-Life Again Roadmap” signals a new era of pro-life advocacy and action, with Students for Life leading the charge in the fight against abortion. Through strategic collaboration with lawmakers and a focus on education and awareness, the group is poised to make a significant impact in the coming years.
