Major US airport could be renamed after Donald Trump
Travelers arriving in Music City may soon be welcomed by a new name at the Nashville International Airport. Tennessee Republican State Rep. Todd Warner recently filed House Bill 217, proposing to rename the airport to Trump International Airport in honor of the former president.
If the bill passes, the metropolitan airport authority will be required to make several changes to execute the name change. This includes updating signage, trademarks with the USPTO, legal documents, and contracts to reflect the new name. The transition period allows the airport to operate under its current name with the designation “doing business as Trump International Airport” until the official change takes effect on Jan. 1, 2026.
This initiative is not the first of its kind, as there have been previous attempts to rename airports after Donald Trump. In April 2024, House Republicans proposed renaming Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia after the former president. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler led the bill with the support of six cosponsors, emphasizing Trump’s leadership as a symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength for travelers landing on American soil.
If the bill is successful, it would be the second airport in the D.C. area named after a Republican president, following Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia. Rep. Barry Moore and Rep. Paul Gosar expressed support for the renaming, citing the significance of honoring America’s greatest presidents.
