Mamdani mocked for bench press reps at Brooklyn event

New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, 33, recently made headlines when he struggled to complete two bench press reps at the annual Men’s Day event in Brooklyn. The Uganda-born socialist needed assistance from his spotter to lift the 135-pound weights, drawing criticism from political rivals.

Mayor Eric Adams mocked Mamdani, labeling him “Mamscrawny” on social media, while former Gov. Andrew Cuomo suggested that Mamdani may not be able to handle the weight of leading the city. Despite the backlash, Mamdani emphasized the teamwork involved in the lift, giving credit to his spotter from “500 Men Making a Difference,” the organization hosting the event.

Following the bench press challenge, Mamdani showcased his athleticism by kicking around a soccer ball. He also announced plans for an anti-Trump tour across all five boroughs of New York City as part of his mayoral campaign.

Men’s Day, where the bench press challenge took place, featured a variety of activities including a car show, circus performance, boot camp classes, financial literacy information, and a step show from fraternity Omega Psi Phi. Mamdani expressed gratitude to the event organizers for celebrating the community and shared his vision of becoming the city’s next mayor.

The organization “500 Men Making a Difference,” founded in 2010 by Wayne Devonish, focuses on promoting the social mobility of Black men through mentorship and community projects. Their initiatives aim to develop job skills and civic responsibility among participants, contributing to the betterment of local communities.

As Mamdani continues his campaign for mayor, his physical fitness and ability to lead the city remain topics of discussion among voters and political opponents. Stay tuned for more updates on his journey towards the mayoral election.
