Nova Scotia RCMP say a 65-year-old man from Sydney Mines is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 125 near North Sydney last Friday night.

A 65-year-old man from Sydney Mines, N.S., is dead after he was hit by a vehicle on Friday night.

In a news release, RCMP said the man was walking along Highway 125 near North Sydney around 8 p.m. local time when he was struck by an eastbound SUV.

The driver and passenger, who were from Cape Breton, were not hurt.

The highway’s eastbound lanes were shut down for several hours after the incident, which remains under investigation.

RCMP said no other details on the man from Sydney Mines would be released out of respect for his family’s privacy.
