Man with firearm threatens New Minas woman, charges laid

NEW MINAS, N.S. — Kings District RCMP have charged a 23-year-old man after a woman was allegedly threatened with a gun in New Minas on Wednesday.

Police were called to the home at about 2:15 p.m. on reports of a man having displayed a firearm while threatening a woman known to him.

Police found the accused outside the home and safely arrested him. The woman was uninjured.

During the investigation, officers discovered the woman had previously been the victim of a serious assault in October 2023.

The man, Corrigan Bezanson, was remanded into custody on Thursday and is set for a Jan. 8 Kentville provincial court appearance to face the following charges:

  • Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Aggravated assault
  • Five counts of failure to comply with a release order
  • Tampering with a serial number
  • Two counts of uttering threats

The investigation is ongoing.
