Manassero, Fox take third-round lead at RBC Canadian Open; Hughes low Canadian
Italy’s Matteo Manassero and New Zealand’s Ryan Fox both put on impressive performances in the third round of the RBC Canadian Open, each carding a stellar 6-under 64 to share the lead heading into the final day of competition. They sit at 14-under overall, just one shot ahead of Taiwan’s Kevin Yu and Americans Lee Hodges and Matt McCarty.
Local favorite Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont., also had a fantastic round, firing a 6-under 64 to climb 13 spots up the leaderboard. He now finds himself tied for sixth place at 12 under alongside Americans Jake Knapp and Andrew Putnam.
Meanwhile, second-round leader Cameron Champ of the U.S. had a tough day on the course, struggling to a 1-over 71 and dropping back into a seven-way tie for ninth at 11 under.
Hughes was one of eight Canadians who made the cut at the prestigious tournament, with Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., and Vancouver’s Richard T. Lee, the low Canadians after two rounds, also in contention.
As the tournament heads into its final day, all eyes will be on Manassero, Fox, and Hughes as they battle it out for the coveted title of RBC Canadian Open champion.
