Manhunt for UnitedHealthcare CEO murder suspect begins 5th day

The nationwide manhunt for the gunman suspected of murdering UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson has now entered its fifth day. Police have released the latest photos of the suspect, showing him in the back of a taxi. Additionally, a backpack believed to be linked to the killer was recovered, containing a jacket and Monopoly money, but no gun. The gunman is thought to have fled New York City on a bus shortly after the shooting.

A dive team from the New York Police Department searched a pond in Central Park on Saturday, near where the backpack was found. The divers were seen behind an area cordoned off with police tape beside Bethesda Fountain in a body of water known as the Lake near the park’s boathouse.

The NYPD has been diligently searching Central Park since Wednesday, following a detailed timeline of the suspect’s movements. The NYPD initially offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest and conviction, while the FBI later announced a reward of up to $50,000.

Police believe the gunman has left New York City, as surveillance footage showed him being dropped off at the Port Authority bus station. However, detectives have been unable to locate footage of him leaving the station. The bus station serves routes that could have taken him to New Jersey, north toward Boston, or south toward Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

A backpack believed to belong to the gunman was found in Central Park and will undergo forensic testing at a lab in Queens. Retired FBI agent Scott Duffey explained that the testing will involve processing for hair, fibers, and DNA, which could potentially provide valuable evidence in the case.
