Massachusetts man killed roommate, 80, for being ‘too close’ to Thanksgiving food because he ‘often sneezes’

A tragic incident occurred on Thanksgiving in Massachusetts, where a man allegedly killed his roommate over a dispute about food preparation. Richard Lombardi, 65, was charged with assault and battery on a person over 60, causing serious injury, and involuntary manslaughter after an altercation with his 80-year-old roommate, Frank Griswold.

According to reports from Boston 25 News, Lombardi became upset when Griswold stood too close to the food he was preparing for Thanksgiving dinner. Lombardi claimed that Griswold “often sneezes,” and he did not want him to contaminate the food. The situation escalated, leading to Lombardi throwing Griswold to the ground, causing him to hit his head and suffer fatal injuries.

The incident took place at their home in Marshfield, where Griswold was pronounced dead at South Shore Hospital. Lombardi pleaded not guilty in Plymouth District Court, stating that the killing was an accident. He explained to police that he grabbed Griswold from behind and threw him aside, causing him to fall and hit his head on the floor.

Assistant District Attorney Joseph Presley revealed that Lombardi saw Griswold near the food and forcibly removed him from the kitchen, resulting in the fatal injury. Lombardi called 911 when he noticed Griswold unconscious and bleeding from his head, but it was too late to save his roommate.

Marshall Johnson, Lombardi’s attorney, described the incident as a tragic accident based on the evidence presented in court. Johnson emphasized that Lombardi and Griswold had been friends for over 30 years and roommates for more than 20 years. Lombardi was devastated to learn of Griswold’s death and is currently being held without bail.
