Masters 2025: Angel Cabrera among notables to miss cut at Augusta

The Masters tournament is where the best golfers in the world come to showcase their skills and compete for the coveted green jacket. However, not every player is able to bring their A-game to Augusta, as evidenced by some big names who failed to make the cut and will be heading home early this year.

One such player is Angel Cabrera, the 2009 Masters champion who was making his return to Augusta after a stint in prison for assault and intimidation. Despite his past indiscretions, Cabrera was given a lifetime exemption to play in the tournament, but he struggled on the course and finished 11-over par, tied for the second-worst score.

Another notable player who failed to advance to the weekend was Dustin Johnson, the 2020 Masters champion. Johnson was 1-over going into the final hole, but a costly double bogey pushed him below the cut line for the second year in a row. Similarly, Brooks Koepka, who had a strong showing at the majors in 2023, faltered at Augusta and missed the cut after a quadruple-bogey on the 18th hole.

Will Zalatoris, a player many fans have been waiting to see break out, also struggled at the Masters this year. Despite a solid start, Zalatoris faltered down the stretch and finished 8-over for the tournament. Tony Finau, who had a strong showing at the Genesis, was unable to make the cut at Augusta after a string of lackluster performances.

Russell Henley, considered a dark horse to contend for the green jacket, had a rough start to the tournament and was unable to recover, finishing 3-over for the week. Finally, Phil Mickelson, who surprised the world with a second-place finish two years ago, failed to make the cut after a disappointing performance on the back nine.

Overall, the Masters is known for its unpredictability and the ability of any player to rise to the occasion. While some big names may have faltered this year, there are still plenty of talented golfers vying for the title. As the tournament continues, fans can expect more twists and turns as the competition heats up at Augusta National.
