Matthew Gaudreau’s widow welcomes child after brothers’ death

New Article: Widow of Former High School Coach Matthew Gaudreau Welcomes Baby Boy Four Months After His Tragic Death

Madeleine Gaudreau, the widow of former high school coach Matthew Gaudreau, took to Instagram to announce the birth of their first child, a baby boy named Tripp Matthew. The joyous news comes four months after the devastating loss of Matthew Gaudreau, who tragically passed away in a fatal accident alongside his NHL star brother Johnny Gaudreau.

Matthew Gaudreau, 29, and Johnny Gaudreau, 31, were both killed after being struck by a suspected drunken driver while riding bikes on a New Jersey roadway in August. The tragic incident occurred just hours before they were set to serve as groomsmen at their sister’s wedding near Philadelphia.

During the joint funeral service for the brothers in September, Madeleine Gaudreau shared heartfelt words about her late husband’s excitement for fatherhood. She mentioned how Matthew Gaudreau had tears in his eyes upon hearing their son Tripp’s heartbeat for the first time, emphasizing that he was truly born to be a dad.

Matthew Gaudreau, a talented hockey athlete who played professionally for five seasons after his time at Boston College, had returned to Gloucester Catholic High School in New Jersey to work as an ice hockey coach in 2022. His brother Johnny Gaudreau, a prominent NHL player for the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets, also tragically lost his life in the same accident.

Recently, a grand jury indicted Sean Higgins, 31, in connection with the deaths of the Gaudreau brothers. Higgins faces charges including reckless vehicular homicide, aggravated manslaughter, tampering with evidence, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. If convicted, he could potentially face up to 20 years in prison and is scheduled to be arraigned on January 7.
