Mayor of America’s biggest city thanks Trump for crackdown on criminal immigrants

New York City Mayor Eric Adams recently expressed his gratitude towards the Trump administration for their efforts in cracking down on criminal illegal immigrants, which he believes has significantly reduced the number of migrants seeking shelter in the city. In fact, Adams stated that the influx of migrants has decreased by over 1,000% from the peak of the migrant crisis under former President Joe Biden.

Adams, a Democrat, has taken a different stance from many members of his party when it comes to immigration issues. He has been willing to collaborate with the Trump administration and border czar Tom Homan on immigration enforcement actions targeting criminal illegal aliens. At a press conference on Monday, Adams referred to the migrant crisis as “probably the largest humanitarian crisis the city has ever experienced,” emphasizing the importance of keeping the city safe.

The mayor attributed the decline in migrant arrivals to a combination of city policies and federal immigration actions put in place before and after President Donald Trump’s tenure. Despite facing criticism from within his party and the media for working with Trump, Adams defended his decision, stating, “They are helping me with the agenda that I stated the previous administration should have been helping me with, and I thank them for helping me with it.”

As a result of these efforts, Adams reported that the number of migrants arriving in the city has dropped significantly, from 4,000 to just 350 per month. This decrease has allowed the city to close down major migrant shelters, including the notorious Roosevelt Hotel, known for crime and violence perpetrated by migrant gangs such as the Venezuelan criminal group Tren de Aragua.

Adams announced that the Roosevelt Hotel shelter would be shutting down in the coming months, marking a significant step towards addressing the migrant crisis. He highlighted the impact of changes to the shelter program, which limited the length of stay for certain groups, allowing over 180,000 individuals to transition out of the shelters and off the taxpayers’ payroll.

In addition to the closure of the Roosevelt Hotel shelter, New York City has also shut down several other large migrant shelters, including those at Randall’s Island and Floyd Bennett Field. Adams revealed plans to close a total of 53 shelter sites within a year, emphasizing the city’s commitment to helping asylum seekers and saving taxpayer dollars.

Overall, Adams expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts between his administration and the Trump administration in addressing the migrant crisis and ensuring the safety and well-being of New York City residents. The city’s proactive measures have not only reduced the influx of migrants but also streamlined the process for those seeking asylum, ultimately benefiting both migrants and taxpayers alike.
