US Election 2024

McCormick eyes ‘ruby red’ county to put him over the top in tight PA Senate battle

The Pennsylvania Senate race between longtime Democratic Senator Bob Casey and Republican challenger Dave McCormick is still ongoing, with both campaigns closely monitoring the results. McCormick’s campaign remains optimistic, citing a lead of 30,679 votes with more yet to be counted. Elizabeth Gregory, McCormick’s communications director, expressed confidence that McCormick will emerge as the next U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania.

As of now, over 98% of the votes have been tallied, showing McCormick with a slim lead of 48.94% compared to Casey’s 48.49%. The race is too close to call definitively and is likely to undergo a recount, given the 31,503-vote margin in McCormick’s favor. The outcome may hinge on the results from Cambria County, a Republican stronghold that is yet to be fully counted.

Pennsylvania’s recount procedures allow for statewide automatic recounts triggered by a margin of victory less than 0.5%, recounts ordered by county election boards, and court-ordered recounts. The deadline for requesting a recount is the second Thursday after Election Day, and the results will determine the next steps in the process.

The Casey campaign remains steadfast in their belief that Senator Casey will secure another term in office. With the margin now within half a point, automatic recounts may come into play, pending the final count of tens of thousands of outstanding votes. Both campaigns are committed to ensuring that every vote is accurately recorded and accounted for.

Senator Bob Casey has been a fixture in Pennsylvania politics since 2006 and faced a formidable challenge from Dave McCormick, a military veteran and former CEO. The outcome of this race will have significant implications for the balance of power in the Senate and the future direction of Pennsylvania politics.
