Meet the young team of software engineers slashing government waste at DOGE: report

Akash Bobba, Edward Coristine, Luke Farritor, Gautier Cole Killian, Gavin Kliger, and Ethan Shaotran are all part of this ambitious project. Bobba, who was part of the Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology program at UC Berkeley, has interned at prestigious companies such as Bridgewater Associates, Meta, and Palantir. His colleagues, including Coristine who studied mechanical engineering and physics at Northwestern and previously worked for Musk’s Neuralink project, bring a wealth of talent and experience to the team.
The young engineers work directly under Anna Scales at the United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM), where they are considered experts. Kliger, who is a special advisor to the director of OPM, has a background in AI and has previously worked at Databricks. Killian, who attended McGill University, has experience as an engineer at Jump Trading, while Shaotran, a computer science student at Harvard, is the founder of Energize AI, an OpenAI-backed startup. Farritor, a Thiel fellow, dropped out of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has a GSA email address with A-suite level clearance.
Despite some concerns raised about the team’s clearance, Musk has defended their qualifications and the importance of their work. He has publicly praised the intelligence and skills of these young engineers, highlighting their contributions to the government’s efforts to cut waste and improve efficiency.
