Meet Trump’s Russia-Ukraine negotiation team

President Donald Trump has announced a promising initiative to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, which has been a source of conflict since 2022. In a post on Truth Social, Trump revealed that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin, along with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, have agreed to work together closely and begin negotiations to bring an end to the devastating war.

Trump has appointed a team of four U.S. officials to lead the negotiations, expressing confidence that they will be successful in reaching a ceasefire in the near future. The team includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Ambassador and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

Witkoff, a real estate mogul, has experience in negotiating peace agreements, having played a key role in brokering a ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel before Trump took office. He recently traveled to Russia to secure the release of U.S. citizen Marc Fogel, who had been held in Russian custody since 2021.

National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, a retired Green Beret and former U.S. congressman, emphasized the importance of bringing all sides to the table to end the war. He highlighted the global support for Trump’s efforts to negotiate peace between Russia and Ukraine.

CIA Director John Ratcliffe, who previously served as director of national intelligence, will also play a crucial role in the negotiations. Ratcliffe has underscored the need for the CIA to leverage technology for intelligence purposes to stay ahead of rival nations like Russia and China.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the first member of Trump’s Cabinet to be confirmed for his second administration, has been actively involved in diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. Rubio recently attended the Munich Security Conference, where he met with Zelenskyy and discussed the path to peace.
