Messy storm coming Sunday to Maritimes to last into Monday

Get ready, Maritimes – another storm is on its way! Following closely behind the late-week system that caused chaos in the region, this new storm is set to bring a mix of heavy snow, ice pellets, freezing rain, and rain.

The northern half of New Brunswick is expected to bear the brunt of this storm, with a widespread 20 to 40 centimetres of snow likely. Southern New Brunswick and P.E.I. are looking at 5 to 15 centimetres of snow and ice pellets, with a mix of freezing rain to follow. Nova Scotia will see snow and ice pellets accumulations ranging from 5 to 10 centimetres, with northeastern areas and Cape Breton expected to receive the highest amounts.

Weather warnings, watches, and advisories are in place across the Maritimes for this incoming storm. The freezing rain is expected to last for several hours, coating surfaces in ice and increasing the risk of power outages.

The snow is set to arrive this afternoon and evening, transitioning to ice pellets and freezing rain later in the day and overnight. Strong winds with gusts up to 70 km/h are expected, adding to the challenging conditions.

By late evening, parts of Nova Scotia will see a transition to rain as temperatures rise above freezing. Strong westerly winds will follow on Monday, with gusts of 60 to 80 km/h and temperatures dropping significantly. The storm will persist into Monday afternoon before gradually easing off on Tuesday.

Wednesday is expected to bring calmer weather with near seasonal temperatures. Stay safe and prepared for this latest round of winter weather in the Maritimes.
