Mexican man convicted of killing his child to be deported after encountering ICE

An illegal immigrant convicted of killing his own child is currently in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody after encountering ICE officers in a Montana prison. Carlos Ambriz, a 53-year-old Mexican national, was serving a 40-year sentence in the Montana State Prison for deliberate homicide when he made contact with ICE officers and was served a notice to appear before an immigration judge. He was subsequently arrested near his residence in Catoosa, Oklahoma, on March 25.

Josh Johnson, the acting director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Dallas Field Office, emphasized the significant danger Ambriz poses to the community, particularly due to his conviction for killing his own child. Johnson stated, “This subject’s criminal record underscores the significant danger he represents to our community, particularly with the serious charge and conviction for killing his own child. Our officers remain committed to enhancing public safety by apprehending and removing criminal aliens who violate immigration laws.”

Ambriz will remain in ICE custody until he is deported back to Mexico. This upcoming deportation will not be his first, as he was previously ordered removed by an immigration judge near Seattle, Washington, on July 3, 1999. He was physically deported to Mexico near the Paseo Del Norte, Texas, Bridge on Jan. 26, 2006, after being ordered removed.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts of ICE to apprehend and remove criminal aliens who pose a threat to public safety. Despite previous deportations, Ambriz’s reentry into the United States and subsequent criminal conviction demonstrate the challenges faced in enforcing immigration laws and protecting communities from individuals with violent criminal histories.
