Mike Collins: Ossoff ‘must go’ as Republicans target Georgia Senate seat

Rep. Mike Collins is considering a run for the Georgia Senate seat currently held by Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff. In a video obtained by Fox News Digital, Collins made it clear that he believes Ossoff “must go” and that he is willing to step up to the challenge.

Collins, a two-term lawmaker representing Georgia’s 10th Congressional District, initially stated that running for the U.S. Senate was not in his plans. However, he acknowledged that sometimes you have to do what is necessary, not just what you want to do. He expressed love for his district and the work he has been doing, but emphasized the importance of making sure a Republican wins the Senate seat in Georgia.

The congressman praised President Donald Trump’s executive order mandating English proficiency for commercial drivers and highlighted his track record of effectiveness in his district. He also pointed out that Ossoff does not represent the Georgia values that he cherishes, and noted the recent dominance of Republicans in the state.

On the Democratic side, the Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson, Devon Cruz, criticized Collins for seeking a promotion after voting to take away health insurance from Georgians. Cruz also highlighted Ossoff’s momentum and readiness to take on any Republican challenger.

With Ossoff seeking re-election for a second term, Senate Republicans view his seat as a prime opportunity to flip in the upcoming 2026 midterm cycle. Collins would potentially face off against fellow Georgia Republican Rep. Buddy Carter and Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King in the Republican primary.

Recent polling shows Collins with a potential edge over his GOP competitors, but still trailing Ossoff in a head-to-head matchup. This indicates a competitive race ahead, with Collins positioning himself as a viable contender for the Senate seat.

As the campaign unfolds, Collins will need to navigate the crowded primary field and build on his support to secure the Republican nomination. The Georgia Senate race is shaping up to be a closely watched contest, with both parties vying for control of the seat and the future direction of the state.
