Military member charged with terrorism warned of ‘another Waco’: court docs

Recent court documents have revealed shocking details about the alleged plot by four Canadian Armed Forces members charged with terrorism. The documents suggest that one of the accused, Marc-Aurèle Chabot, openly discussed his willingness to use violence against government authorities and even warned about a potential Waco-like massacre.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) charged Chabot and three other men with planning an ideologically motivated violent plot to forcibly take possession of land in the Quebec City area. Alongside weapons charges, Chabot, Simon Angers-Audet, and Raphaël Lagacé were charged with facilitating a terrorist activity. Matthew Forbes, the fourth individual, faces charges related to possession of firearms, prohibited devices, explosives, and controlled items.

According to court documents, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service flagged an Instagram account called hide_n_stalk as a potential national security threat in March 2023. This led to a lengthy investigation known as Project Supion into an anti-government accelerationist group with increasing members.

The court documents paint Chabot as the de facto leader of the group, advocating for the creation of a community opposed to government overreach and prepared to defend it with force if necessary. Chabot allegedly appeared on a podcast where he discussed building an anti-government community and expressed his distrust of government authorities.

Chabot’s comments on the podcast included statements against the Liberal government’s gun control laws and his lack of faith in the federal Conservative Party. He emphasized the need for self-reliance and a well-prepared community to resist government intrusion, warning that the group was ready to defend themselves, even if it meant another Waco-like incident.

The documents also allege that the group, known to police as a pro-gun extremist militant group, engaged in paramilitary training exercises and purchased firearms and supplies worth thousands of dollars. Members were observed conducting military-like training with firearms in a controlled wilderness area near Quebec City.

The investigation into the group involved intense surveillance, including aerial and GPS tracking of the accused individuals. The court documents detail the extensive efforts by law enforcement to monitor the activities of the group and gather evidence of their alleged terrorist plot.

The revelations from the unsealed court documents shed light on the disturbing activities of these Canadian Armed Forces members and raise concerns about the presence of extremist ideologies within the military. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by individuals radicalized towards violence and the importance of vigilance in combating domestic terrorism.

In a shocking turn of events, RCMP officers uncovered a training camp in July 2023 that police say was affiliated with a company linked to suspicious activities. The training camp was described as a preparation ground for a possible invasion, with attendees being put through intense and alarming training exercises in the dead of night. The techniques being taught were described as basic, indicating that the trainers may not have had much experience with them.

Further investigations revealed another training camp near a residence in Rolphton, Ont. where individuals, including the accused, were spotted. Surveillance suggests that on September 11, 2023, a training session took place at a quarry owned by one of the accused’s family, with around 10 participants.

In a separate incident, an undercover officer met with Forbes in 2023 after receiving information that he was involved in arms trafficking. Forbes allegedly asked if the night-vision goggles he was providing were to “get ready when the shit hits the fan.”

The RCMP’s investigation escalated in January 2024 when Lagacé’s ex-partner called 911, expressing concerns about illegal weapons and suicidal comments. This led to a discovery of over 50 firearms and ammunition by Quebec City police, prompting the RCMP to file ITOs and launch Project Supion. The operation resulted in the seizure of explosive devices, firearms, ammunition, and magazines.

While the allegations against the accused have not been tested in court, Angers-Audet, Lagacé, and Chabot have been denied bail, while Forbes has been granted bail with stringent conditions, including wearing a GPS tracking bracelet. Their next court appearance is scheduled for September.

This disturbing series of events underscores the importance of vigilance and thorough investigations in uncovering potential threats to public safety. The authorities’ swift action in dismantling these operations serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to keep communities safe from harm. As we approach the end of another year, it’s a good time to reflect on the past 12 months and set goals for the year ahead. While New Year’s resolutions are often made with good intentions, many people struggle to stick to them. However, with the right mindset and a few key strategies, it is possible to make lasting changes in our lives.

One of the most important factors in setting and achieving goals is to make them realistic and achievable. Setting overly ambitious goals can lead to frustration and disappointment, which can ultimately derail our efforts. Instead, it’s important to set small, achievable goals that can be easily measured and tracked. This will help us stay motivated and focused on our progress.

Another key factor in achieving our goals is to create a plan of action. This means breaking down our goals into smaller, more manageable steps and setting deadlines for each one. By creating a roadmap for how we will achieve our goals, we can stay organized and focused on our progress.

It’s also important to surround ourselves with a supportive community of friends, family, or colleagues who can help us stay accountable and motivated. By sharing our goals with others, we can receive encouragement and support when we need it most.

Lastly, it’s important to remember that setbacks are a natural part of the goal-setting process. It’s important to be kind to ourselves and not give up when things don’t go as planned. Instead, we can use setbacks as learning opportunities and adjust our goals and plans accordingly.

In conclusion, setting and achieving goals is a process that requires patience, perseverance, and determination. By setting realistic goals, creating a plan of action, seeking support from others, and being resilient in the face of setbacks, we can make lasting changes in our lives and achieve our dreams. So as we look ahead to the new year, let’s commit to setting meaningful goals and taking the necessary steps to achieve them.
