LONDON –
Milos Raonic of Canada withdrew from the Cinch Championships on Tuesday, shortly before his scheduled first round match of the Wimbledon warm-up tournament.
Raonic, who recently returned to the ATP Tour after a nearly two-year absence, was set to play Australian Jordan Thompson.
Reports indicate that Raonic has a right shoulder injury. Lucky loser Alexei Popyrin from Australia replaced him in the draw.
The severity of the shoulder problem and Raonic’s status ahead of Wimbledon in early July remain unclear. Messages left at the ATP Tour and Tennis Canada were not immediately returned.
A former world No. 3, Raonic has struggled with several injury issues throughout his career.
The 32-year-old right-hander from Thornhill, Ontario, won his second leg at the Libema Open in the Netherlands last week before falling to Thompson in the second round.
