Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is rooting for rain during Trump’s military parade Saturday

Former Democratic vice presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz, D-Minn., is making headlines once again, this time for openly expressing his hope for rain on Saturday during President Donald Trump’s military parade. The governor, speaking at a “What’s Next: Conversations on the Path Forward” event hosted by the Center for American Progress (CAP), admitted to never hoping for rain so much in his life.
“I’m just going to confess to it,” Walz said to CEO Neera Tanden. “It might get me in trouble. Whatever. I have never so hoped for rain in my life.”
President Trump is set to host a massive Flag Day military parade on Saturday to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are expected to gather in Washington, D.C., to witness the historic event, which also coincides with the president’s 79th birthday.
According to the FOX Forecast Center’s Risk Of Weather Impact (ROWI) assessment, there is a medium risk of inclement weather in the nation’s capital, with showers and thunderstorms expected throughout part of the evening. Walz is hoping for that perfect storm.
The Democrat, who gained national attention as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate during her brief 2024 presidential campaign, took the opportunity to criticize Trump during the event. Walz labeled Trump as “incompetent at governing,” stating that America is in a “dangerous time” under his leadership, which he believes is “marching towards authoritarianism.”
Walz confirmed that he will be speaking at a “No Kings” protest in St. Paul, Minn., on Saturday during Trump’s military parade in Washington, D.C. Despite facing scrutiny from Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., who accused him of being a target for Chinese influence operations, Walz stood firm in his decision to attend the protest.
“I think I’m going to go be with a few thousand folks who kind of have the tradition that there is a separation there, that we don’t need this. This is not Pyongyang on a Saturday,” Walz stated, before revealing his hope for rain. Pyongyang is the capital of North Korea, a communist, totalitarian dictatorship.
Trump’s military parade on Saturday has drawn criticism from many Democrats, including those planning to protest, who have likened it to China’s and North Korea’s military parades. The event comes at a time of heightened tension in the Middle East, following Israel’s air strikes on Iran and Iran’s retaliatory missile launch towards Israeli territory.
Walz, previously mocked for celebrating Tesla’s stock drop amid protests and rejecting Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), continues to make waves with his outspoken views. The governor’s stance against Trump’s military parade and his hope for rain have sparked debate and controversy.
In conclusion, Gov. Tim Walz’s bold statements and actions have once again put him in the spotlight, as he stands against what he views as a display of militaristic grandeur. As the nation awaits Saturday’s events, all eyes will be on Washington, D.C., to see if Walz’s wish for rain will come true.
