Minnesota officials update search for suspect who allegedly killed lawmaker

Minnesota officials provided an update on the search for lawmaker shooting suspect Vance Boelter on Sunday evening, describing it as a “fluid” situation. Boelter, 57, is accused of killing Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, in their Brooklyn Park home in Minneapolis. He also allegedly shot State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, in their nearby Champlin home.
Superintendent Drew Evans of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) stated that law enforcement officials are actively trying to locate and apprehend Boelter on federal and local warrants. The search led authorities to conduct searches in Sibley County, where Boelter’s vehicle and a hat believed to belong to him were found. Evans urged residents in the area to report any suspicious activity to the police.
Authorities are sifting through 400 tips and described the search as complex and ongoing. The suspect, who targeted lawmakers in a premeditated attack, was seen wearing a police-like uniform and a mask during the shootings. Evans emphasized the need for time to thoroughly investigate the information and evidence gathered.
The manhunt for Boelter began on Saturday morning and continued into Sunday. Law enforcement officials are exploring all possibilities, including whether the suspect may be attempting to flee the country or reach Canada. The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Boelter’s car was found in the area, but the suspect remains at large. Residents were warned to exercise caution and secure their homes.
Democratic Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar shared a message from Yvette Hoffman, wife of Sen. John Hoffman, who revealed that her husband had been shot nine times, while she was shot eight times. Both are undergoing surgeries but are expected to recover. The tragic loss of Melissa and Mark Hortman has left the community devastated.
Authorities have released a photo of Boelter and stated that he had signs in his vehicle reading “No Kings.” The motive behind the shootings remains under investigation. The search for Boelter continues, and law enforcement officials are determined to bring him to justice.
In conclusion, the manhunt for Vance Boelter, the suspected gunman in the shooting of Minnesota lawmakers, remains a top priority for law enforcement. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any information that may lead to the suspect’s arrest. The community stands united in support of the victims and their families during this difficult time.
