Missouri Governor Considers Special Session to Redraw Congressional Maps

Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe is reportedly considering calling a special session to redraw the state’s congressional maps.

During a recent press conference, Kehoe hinted at the possibility but stopped short of making a formal announcement.

“We are still in the process of evaluating all the necessary components before making a final decision,” Kehoe stated at a gathering at the Missouri Soybean Association headquarters.

The potential special session comes amid pressure from President Donald Trump for GOP-led states to redraw their political boundaries in favor of Republican candidates ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

With Missouri currently holding eight House seats, Republicans are eyeing changes that could potentially shift the balance of power in key districts.

Democratic Response

Democrats have been quick to respond to the proposed redistricting efforts, issuing fundraising alerts and voicing concerns about potential gerrymandering.

“This isn’t just about one district — it’s about whether Missouri voters get to choose their representatives, or whether politicians get to rig the rules to choose their voters,” said Missouri Democratic Party Chairman Russ Carnahan.

State House minority leader Ashley Aune criticized Kehoe’s perceived alignment with the president, accusing him of being a pawn in Trump’s political agenda.

As the debate over redistricting heats up in Missouri, all eyes are on Governor Kehoe and the potential impact of his decision on the state’s political landscape.
