Missouri star basketball player stretchered off court in scary moment

A frightening incident took place during the Missouri-Lindenwood men’s college basketball game on Wednesday night, as a Tigers player had to be carried off the court on a stretcher. Caleb Grill, the star guard for the Tigers, sustained a head and neck injury while battling for a rebound in the team’s 81-61 victory over Lindenwood.

Grill was struck awkwardly in the head while attempting to grab the rebound, causing his neck to snap back as he was airborne. He landed hard on the court and immediately grabbed the back of his head in pain. The severity of his injury was evident as he was attended to by medical staff and eventually transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Despite the scary moment, Grill managed to give a thumbs up to the crowd as he was being taken off the court, which was a reassuring sign for everyone in attendance. The Columbia Daily Tribune reported that Grill was responsive but was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. The specifics of his injury were not disclosed at that time.

Following the game, Mizzou head coach Dennis Gates provided an update on Grill’s condition, stating that they were awaiting the results of a CT scan. He emphasized the importance of being cautious with head and neck injuries and expressed relief that Grill was responsive and communicating during the ordeal.

Grill, who was the Tigers’ leading scorer heading into the game, averaging 15.5 points per game while shooting over 55% from three-point range, saw a dip in his performance that night. He only managed to score two points and record one steal in seven minutes of play before being sidelined for the rest of the game.

The Tigers improved to a 6-1 record for the season with the win, but the focus remains on Grill’s recovery and potential return to the court. His absence will undoubtedly be felt by the team, but they are hopeful for his speedy recovery and return to action.

Mizzou’s next game is scheduled for Tuesday against Cal, where they will look to continue their winning streak without one of their key players. Stay tuned for updates on Grill’s condition and the team’s performance as the season progresses.
