Mitton tops shot put field in Beijing after being stripped of Diamond League Final win

Sarah Mitton showcased her dominance in the shot put circle, reclaiming her winning form at a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold track and field meet in Beijing. With a best throw of 19.81 metres, she bested her competitors, including Sweden’s Fanny Roos and China’s Zhang Linru. Mitton’s victory comes after a recent setback in Zurich where she was stripped of her Diamond League Trophy due to a technicality in her winning throw.
Mitton, a seasoned athlete preparing for her fourth world championships, has had her fair share of successes and challenges in the shot put event. Despite being disqualified in Zurich, she has consistently proven herself as a formidable competitor on the world stage.
On the track, teammate Andre De Grasse made a strong comeback after a three-month hiatus due to hamstring tightness. In his first race since June, De Grasse finished third in the men’s 100m event in Beijing. His finishing time of 10.16 seconds was only 1-100th off his season best, showcasing his skill and determination in the sprinting discipline.
De Grasse’s return to form is a promising sign as he gears up for his fifth world championships. With a bronze medal in the 100m event at the 2021 Olympics, De Grasse is a seasoned sprinter with a competitive edge that sets him apart on the global stage.
As the Canadian team prepares for the World Athletics Championships, they are sending a strong contingent of athletes, including defending champions in various disciplines. With a mix of seasoned veterans like De Grasse and up-and-coming talents like Mitton, Canada is poised to make a mark at the prestigious event.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Canadian athletes as they compete on the world stage and strive for excellence in their respective events.
